Sensex flat with positive bias at open

Indian equities are trading flat with positive bias in early trade onWednesday snapping earlier losses. At 09.19 a.m., the Sensex was trading up 10.98 points or 0.06% at 18,441.83 with 16 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 2.05 points or 0.04% at 5,595.85 with 27 components falling.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened flat with a rise of 5.94 points or 0.03% at 18,436.79, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a fall of 1.15 points or 0.02%, at 5,596.75.
Sensex Movers
I T C contributed rise of 6.46 points
in the Sensex. It was followed by Tata Motors (3.5 points),
Mahindra & Mahindra (2.92 points), Bharti Airtel (2.45 points)
and Grasim Industries (2.39 points).
However, State Bank Of India contributed fall of 2.62 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Hindustan Unilever (2.08 points), Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.69 points), Maruti Suzuki India (1.41 points) and Hero Motocorp (1.38 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (1.18%), Wipro (0.73%), Mahindra & Mahindra (0.62%), Sterlite Industries (India) (0.61%), Tata Motors (0.61%), and NTPC (0.60%).
On the other hand, Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.70%), Hero Motocorp (0.64%), Maruti Suzuki India (0.61%), State Bank Of India (0.39%), G A I L (India) (0.34%), and Hindustan Unilever (0.30%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.26% and 0.23% respectively. The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Aban Offshore (0.51%), Allahabad Bank (0.23%), Alstom India (0.07%), Amara Raja Batteries (0.05%) and A B G Shipyard (0.05%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Aarti Industries (2.67%), Aegis Logistics (1.7%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (0.94%), Reliance MediaWorks (0.86%) and Advanta India (0.36%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Consumer Durables index was at 6,943.00, up by 44.64 points or by 0.65%. The major gainers were Whirlpool Of India (3.6%), C.Mahendra Exports (2.39%), Bajaj Electricals (0.81%), Gitanjali Gems (0.67%) and Rajesh Exports (0.36%).
The Capital Goods index was at 10,947.72, up by 43.18 points or by 0.40%. The major gainers were Bharat Electronics (1.29%), Havell'S India (0.67%), A B B (0.26%), Alstom India (0.07%) and Lakshmi Machine Works (0.04%).
The HC index was at 7,520.25, up by 28.82 points or by 0.38%. The major gainers were Biocon (1.37%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (1.18%), Cipla (0.44%), Apollo Hospitals Enterprise (0.15%) and Glaxo SmithKline Pharmaceuticals (0.1%).
On the other hand, the Realty index was at 1,745.73, down by 0.9 points or by 0.05%. The major losers were Housing Development and Infrastructure (0.86%), Unitech (0.64%), D L F (0.55%), Prestige Estates Projects (0.13%) and Sobha Developers (0.03%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was positive with 541 advances against 247 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
State Bank Of India topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 50.11 million. It was followed by United Spirits (Rs. 28.38 million), Mahindra Satyam (Rs. 20.71 million) and Maruti Suzuki India (Rs. 12.55 million).
The volume chart was led by Veer Energy and Infrastructure with trades of over 0.38 million shares. It was followed by Kingfisher Airlines (0.25 million), Mahindra Satyam (0.19 million) and TV18 Broadcast (0.11 million).
