Sensex trades up 0.4%; RIL, ITC, M&M lead

Indian markets gained in early morning trade on Monday. At 10.52 a.m, the Sensex was trading up 73.88 points or 0.40% at 18,699.22 with 20 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 18.95 points or 0.33% at 5,683.25 with 37 components gaining.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 30.66 points or 0.16% at 18,656, while the broad based NSE Nifty began flat with a gain of 0.90 points or 0.02%, at 5,665.20.
Sensex Movers
Reliance Industries contributed rise of
20.43 points in the Sensex. It was followed by I T C (8.66 points),
Mahindra & Mahindra (8.12 points), Housing Development Finance
Corporation (7.08 points) and H D F C Bank (6.72 points).
However, Infosys contributed fall of 7.22 points in the Sensex. It was followed by I C I C I Bank (5.87 points), Hindustan Unilever (4.9 points), Sterlite Industries (India) (2 points) and Maruti Suzuki India (1.19 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Jindal Steel & Power (2.19%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.75%), Hindalco Industries (1.51%), Hero Motocorp (1.38%), Reliance Industries (1.19%), and Wipro (1.18%).
On the other hand, Sterlite Industries (India) (1.09%), Hindustan Unilever (0.67%), Infosys (0.52%), Maruti Suzuki India (0.51%), I C I C I Bank (0.41%), and G A I L (India) (0.26%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Sectors in Limelight
The Oil & Gas index was at 8,455.91, up by 61.35 points or by 0.73%. The major gainers were Reliance Industries (1.19%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.73%), Oil India (0.24%), Cairn India (0.24%) and Indian Oil Corporation (0.15%).
The Metal index was at 10,271.95, up by 66.41 points or by 0.65%. The major gainers were Jindal Steel & Power (2.19%), JSW Steel (1.79%), Hindalco Industries (1.51%), Bhushan Steel (0.34%) and Coal India (0.06%).
The Consumer Durables index was at 7,064.16, up by 42.64 points or by 0.61%. The major gainers were Blue Star (2.19%), Rajesh Exports (1.33%), Whirlpool Of India (0.9%), Titan Industries (0.53%) and T T K Prestige (0.32%).
On the other hand, the IT index was at 5,652.55, down by 8.94 points or by 0.16%. The major losers were Hexaware Technologies (1.63%), Mphasis (0.79%), Oracle Financial Services Software (0.71%), Infosys (0.52%) and Tata Consultancy Services (0.07%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was positive with 1,239 advances against 877 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
United Spirits topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 392.62 million. It was followed by State Bank Of India (Rs. 264.48 million), United Breweries (Rs. 222.73 million) and Hatsun Agro Product (Rs. 139.01 million).
The volume chart was led by Kingfisher Airlines with trades of over 7.65 million shares. It was followed by Lanco Infratech (2.45 million), TV18 Broadcast (1.65 million) and Hatsun Agro Product (1.64 million).
