Sensex closes higher; Auto, Capital Goods lead

Indian markets settled marginally positive on Thursday. The market was range-bound throughout the day due to F&O expiry.
At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained 48.61 or 0.26% at 18,758.63 with 16 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty climbed by 13.90 or 0.24% at 5,705.30 with 26 components posting rise (updated as on 15.50).
Sensex Movers
Housing Development Finance Corporation
contributed rise of 27.68 points in the Sensex. It was followed by
Mahindra & Mahindra (16.72 points), I T C (11.42 points), I C I
C I Bank (9.11 points) and H D F C Bank (8.45 points).
However, State Bank Of India contributed fall of 10.68 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Hindustan Unilever (8.49 points), Tata Motors (7.67 points), Infosys (4.32 points) and Tata Steel (4.26 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Mahindra & Mahindra (3.59%), Hero Motocorp (2.36%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (2.06%), Sterlite Industries (India) (1.98%), G A I L (India) (1.55%), and Larsen & Toubro (0.67%).
On the other hand, Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (2.03%), State Bank Of India (1.49%), Tata Motors (1.27%), Tata Steel (1.26%), Hindustan Unilever (1.16%), and Jindal Steel & Power (0.97%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Apollo Hospitals Enterprise (3.59%), Amtek India (3.5%), Amtek Auto (2.79%), Hexaware Technologies (2.6%) and CORE Education and Technologies (0.73%).The major losers in the BSE Smallcap were Action Construction Equipment (2.88%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (2.05%), Reliance MediaWorks (1.72%), Aanjaneya Lifecare (0.97%) and Styrolution ABS (India) (0.02%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Realty index was at 1,816.73, down by 24.89 points or by 1.35%. The major losers were D B Realty (3.76%), Indiabulls Real Estate (3.11%), Anant Raj Industries (1.31%), D L F (0.27%) and Godrej Properties (0.05%).
The IPO index was at 1,677.45, down by 9.21 points or by 0.55%. The major losers were A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (2.05%), Bedmutha Industries (1.64%), Aanjaneya Lifecare (0.97%), BS TransComm (0.97%) and Acropetal Technologies (0.68%).
The HC index was at 7,569.55, down by 27.47 points or by 0.36%. The major losers were Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (2.03%), Cipla (0.86%), Biocon (0.83%), Divis Laboratories (0.74%) and Ipca Laboratories (0.69%).
On the other hand, the Auto index was at 10,207.25, up by 59.31 points or by 0.58%. The major gainers were Mahindra & Mahindra (3.59%), Hero Motocorp (2.36%), Exide Industries (0.43%), Bosch (0.32%) and Maruti Suzuki India (0.01%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was negative with 1,318 advances against 1,582 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Adani Enterprises topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,942.73 million. It was followed by State Bank Of India (Rs. 809.24 million), United Spirits (Rs. 753.58 million) and Infosys (Rs. 710.01 million).
The volume chart was led by Adani Enterprises with trades of over 8.75 million shares. It was followed by Kingfisher Airlines (8.74 million), TV18 Broadcast (7.53 million) and Firstsource Solutions (7.09 million).
