Sensex flat with positive bias; Adani Ent most active

Indian marketsgained on Thursday. At 11.15 a.m., the Sensex was trading up 38.41 points or 0.21% at 18,748.43 with 18 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 11.40 points or 0.20% at 5,702.80 with 29 components gaining.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened flat with a rise of 2.39 points or 0.01% at 18,712.41, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a fall of 2.60 points or 0.05%, at 5,688.80.
Sensex Movers
Housing Development Finance Corporation
contributed rise of 16.39 points in the Sensex. It was followed by
Reliance Industries (10.64 points), Oil & Natural Gas
Corporation (7.75 points), I T C (5.71 points) and Sterlite
Industries (India) (5.13 points).
However, Infosys contributed fall of 8.99 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Larsen & Toubro (3.68 points), State Bank Of India (3.1 points), Tata Motors (2.98 points) and Hindustan Unilever (2.57 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Sterlite Industries (India) (2.79%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.22%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.11%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.01%), Hindalco Industries (0.84%), and Hero Motocorp (0.79%).
On the other hand, Jindal Steel & Power (0.95%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (0.88%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.66%), Infosys (0.65%), Tata Motors (0.49%), and State Bank Of India (0.43%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Sectors in Limelight
The Oil & Gas index was at 8,508.13, up by 51.69 points or by 0.61%. The major gainers were Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.11%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (0.68%), G A I L (India) (0.55%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation (0.37%) and Cairn India (0.22%).
The Metal index was at 10,303.71, up by 47.98 points or by 0.47%. The major gainers were Sesa Goa (1.74%), Hindalco Industries (0.84%), Hindustan Zinc (0.57%), Steel Authority Of India (0.55%) and Coal India (0.43%).
The Consumer Durables index was at 7,204.03, down by 24.47 points or by 0.34%. The major losers were C.Mahendra Exports (2.62%), Bajaj Electricals (2.06%), Rajesh Exports (1.4%), Gitanjali Gems (0.41%) and Titan Industries (0.09%).The Realty index was at 1,836.04, down by 5.58 points or by 0.3%. The major losers were D B Realty (2.4%), Indiabulls Real Estate (2.07%), Housing Development and Infrastructure (0.34%), D L F (0.22%) and Oberoi Realty (0.11%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was positive with 1,242 advances against 1,090 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Adani Enterprises topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,837.02 million. It was followed by Standard Chartered PLC (Rs. 1,184.13 million), Infosys (Rs. 411.38 million) and Adani Power (Rs. 294.33 million).
The volume chart was led by Standard Chartered PLC with trades of over 11.45 million shares. It was followed by Adani Enterprises (8.22 million), Kingfisher Airlines (6.46 million) and Adani Power (6.20 million).
