Sensex ends 111 points higher; Nifty regains 5,700

Indian equities settled higher on Monday led by gainscapital goods, healthcare and banking stocks.At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 111.13 pointsor 0.59% at 18,793.44 with 20 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went up by 32.90 or 0.58% at 5,717.15 with 34 components registering rise.Sensex Movers
Reliance Industries contributed rise of 24.62 points in the Sensex. It was followed by HDFC Bank (24.37 points), ICICI Bank (24.08 points), Larsen & Toubro (23.5 points) and Tata Consultancy Services (20.46 points).
However, ITC contributed fall of 28.2 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Tata Motors (5.19 points), State Bank Of India (4.68 points), Housing Development Finance Corporation (2.87 points) and Hero Motocorp (2.13 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Tata Consultancy Services (2.26%), Larsen & Toubro (2.17%), Bharti Airtel (1.91%), NTPC (1.74%), HDFC Bank (1.73%), and ICICI Bank (1.69%).
On the other hand, ITC (1.53%), Jindal Steel & Power (1.52%), Sterlite Industries (India) (1.15%), Hero Motocorp (1.01%), Tata Motors (0.86%), and State Bank Of India (0.65%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Midcap settled lower6.87 points or 0.10% at 6,671.62 however the BSE Smallcap gained21.90 points or 0.31% at 7,191.65 at the closing.The major losers in the BSE Midcap were ABG Shipyard (2.02%), AIA Engineering (1.66%), Aban Offshore (1.14%), Allcargo Logistics (1.14%) and Allahabad Bank (0.07%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Action Construction Equipment (9.88%), Aarti Industries (5.92%), Advanta India (2.29%), Styrolution ABS (India) (0.91%) and Aegis Logistics (0.2%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Capital Goods index was at 11,218.44, up by 149.52 points or by 1.35%. The major gainers were Larsen & Toubro (2.17%), Lakshmi Machine Works (1.85%), Alstom India (0.78%), Crompton Greaves (0.15%) and Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.04%).
The HC index was at 7,608.78, up by 88.14 points or by 1.17%. The major gainers were Divis Laboratories (3.21%), Aurobindo Pharma (2.68%), Cipla (1.46%), Cadila Healthcare (0.97%) and Apollo Hospitals Enterprise (0.9%).
The Bankex index was at 13,321.61, up by 128.56 points or by 0.97%. The major gainers were HDFC Bank (1.73%), ICICI Bank (1.69%), Federal Bank (0.79%), Canara Bank (0.5%) and Bank Of India (0.07%).
On the other hand, the FMCG index was at 5,856.95, down by 45.02 points or by 0.76%. The major losers were ITC (1.53%), Jubilant FoodWorks (1.36%), Nestle India (0.34%) and Dabur India (0.19%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was negative with 1,428 advances against 1,486 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Larsen & Toubro topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,034.97 million. It was followed by United Spirits (Rs. 859.66 million), State Bank Of India (Rs. 672.14 million) and ICICI Bank (Rs. 493.85 million).
The volume chart was led by Cals Refineries with trades of over 9.15 million shares. It was followed by Dazzel Confindive (4.50 million), Subex (3.80 million) and Sujana Towers (3.60 million).
