Asian markets end higher; Nikkei up 1.4%

Asian stocks rose on Tuesdayled byexporters after the U.S. reported better-than-expected retail sales.
Japanese benchmark index, Nikkei 225 rose 123.38 points or 1.44% to close at 8,701.31. Hong Kong"s Hang Seng index increased 58.82 points, or 0.28% to end at 21,207.07. China"s Shanghai Composite index advanced 0.11 points, or 0.01% to settle at 2,098.81.
Taiwan"s Taiex index rose 52.12 points, or 0.70%, to settle at 7,471.02. South Korea"s Kospi index increased 15.95 points, or 0.83% to end at 1,941.54. Singapore"s Straits Times indexed advanced 3.76 points, or to 0.12% close at 3,046.81.
