Sensex continues to trade lower; Bank, CG, fall

Indian markets continued to trade in a lackluster note on Monday. At 11.09 a.m., the Sensex was trading down 54.55 points or 0.29% at 18,620.63 with 19 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 16.10 points or 0.28% at 5,659.95 with 31 components falling.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened flat with a rise of 15.81 points or 0.08% at 18,690.99, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a fall of 1.80 points or 0.03%, at 5,674.25.
Sensex Movers
I C I C I Bank contributed fall of 15.2
points in the Sensex. It was followed by Housing Development
Finance Corporation (9.23 points), Infosys (5.44 points), H D F C
Bank (5.36 points) and I T C (5.35 points).
However, Reliance Industries contributed rise of 8.75 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Hindustan Unilever (1.75 points), Hindalco Industries (1.72 points), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (1.18 points) and Wipro (1.04 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Cipla (0.95%), Hindalco Industries (0.93%), Bajaj Auto (0.81%), Dr Reddy"S Laboratories (0.54%), Reliance Industries (0.49%), and Wipro (0.38%).
On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki India (1.32%), Bharti Airtel (1.11%), I C I C I Bank (1.06%), G A I L (India) (1.04%), Sterlite Industries (India) (1.02%), and Tata Motors (0.74%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.06% and 0.60% respectively. The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were A I A Engineering (1.53%), Amtek Auto (1.52%), Amara Raja Batteries (1.4%), Aban Offshore (0.81%) and Amtek India (0.61%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Adhunik Metaliks (7.69%), Action Construction Equipment (2.56%), Styrolution ABS (India) (0.89%), Aarti Industries (0.83%) and A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (0.35%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Bankex index was at 13,001.55, down by 85.37 points or by 0.65%. The major losers were Federal Bank (1.39%), I C I C I Bank (1.06%), H D F C Bank (0.39%), Bank Of India (0.32%) and Bank Of Baroda (0.24%).
The Consumer Durables index was at 7,154.11, down by 40.92 points or by 0.57%. The major losers were Gitanjali Gems (1.01%), Titan Industries (0.8%), Blue Star (0.47%), Rajesh Exports (0.45%) and C.Mahendra Exports (0.06%).
The TECk index was at 3,302.86, down by 11.42 points or by 0.34%. The major losers were Deccan Chronicle Holdings (4.9%), Dish TV India (1.29%), Bharti Airtel (1.11%), Oracle Financial Services Software (0.52%) and D B Corp (0.23%).
On the other hand, the HC index was at 7,610.82, up by 40.69 points or by 0.54%. The major gainers were Divis Laboratories (2.03%), Cadila Healthcare (1.19%), Cipla (0.95%), Glaxo SmithKline Pharmaceuticals (0.78%) and Dr Reddy"S Laboratories (0.54%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was positive with 1,235 advances against 1,049 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
United Spirits topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 332.47 million. It was followed by Infosys (Rs. 246.94 million), State Bank Of India (Rs. 172.95 million) and T T K Prestige (Rs. 152.91 million).
The volume chart was led by Kingfisher Airlines with trades of over 4.07 million shares. It was followed by Unitech (3.09 million), TV18 Broadcast (1.81 million) and Cals Refineries (1.55 million).
