Sensex trades down 64 pts; Infosys falls post Q2 nos

Indian equities dropped on Friday erasing earlier gains. At 10.05 a.m., the Sensex was trading down 64.22 points or 0.34% at 18,740.53 with 8 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 11.35 points or 0.20% at 5,696.70 with 15 components falling.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a decline of 77.65 points or 0.41% at 18,727.10, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a fall of 26.35 points or 0.46%, at 5,681.70.
Sensex Movers
Tata Consultancy Services contributed
fall of 6.75 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Wipro (4.92
points), Housing Development Finance Corporation (3 points), Bharti
Airtel (1.8 points) and D L F (1.55 points).
However, I T C contributed rise of 10.77 points in the Sensex. It was followed by H D F C Bank (10.01 points), Reliance Industries (5.76 points), Mahindra & Mahindra (5.51 points) and State Bank Of India (4.44 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Tata Power Company (1.42%), Hindalco Industries (1.35%), G A I L (India) (1.32%), Sterlite Industries (India) (1.27%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.26%), and Maruti Suzuki India (1.24%).
On the other hand, Infosys (6.99%), Wipro (1.80%), Tata Consultancy Services (0.75%), Bharti Airtel (0.41%), Tata Motors (0.22%), and Housing Development Finance Corporation (0.21%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.67% and 0.62% respectively. The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Alstom India (1.91%), A B G Shipyard (1.03%), Amara Raja Batteries (0.8%), Alok Industries (0.4%) and Aban Offshore (0.12%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Reliance MediaWorks (1.92%), Adhunik Metaliks (1.88%), Aarti Industries (0.64%), Trident (0.46%) and Styrolution ABS (India) (0.25%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Metal index was at 10,726.92, up by 99.72 points or by 0.94%. The major gainers were Hindalco Industries (1.35%), Hindustan Zinc (0.95%), Jindal Steel & Power (0.89%), Coal India (0.81%) and JSW Steel (0.78%).
The Consumer Durables index was at 7,210.58, up by 58.68 points or by 0.82%. The major gainers were Gitanjali Gems (2.04%), Videocon Industries (1.36%), Titan Industries (0.97%), Rajesh Exports (0.45%) and Blue Star (0.21%).
The HC index was at 7,588.71, up by 55.41 points or by 0.74%. The major gainers were Apollo Hospitals Enterprise (2.06%), Cipla (1.05%), Biocon (0.75%), Cadila Healthcare (0.73%) and Aurobindo Pharma (0.31%).
On the other hand, the IT index was at 5,650.67, down by 230.45 points or by 3.92%. The major losers were Infosys (6.99%), H C L Technologies (0.8%), Hexaware Technologies (0.7%), CORE Education and Technologies (0.33%) and Oracle Financial Services Software (0.09%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was positive with 1,167 advances against 676 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Infosys topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 856.34 million. It was followed by State Bank Of India (Rs. 213.63 million), Tata Steel (Rs. 124.66 million) and United Spirits (Rs. 121.75 million).
The volume chart was led by Kingfisher Airlines with trades of over 4.44 million shares. It was followed by Unitech (3.21 million), Cals Refineries (2.19 million) and Reliance Communications (1.29 million).
