Sensex trades up 137 pts; Metal, CG, bank rise

Indian markets continued to gain on Tuesday snapping earlier losses. At 10.04 a.m., the Sensex was trading up 136.92 points or 0.73% at 18,845.90 with 26 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 36.30 points or 0.64% at 5,712.30 with 43 components gaining.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 87.27 points or 0.47% at 18,796.25, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 32.15 points or 0.57%, at 5,708.15.
Sensex Movers
I C I C I Bank contributed rise of
20.74 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Larsen & Toubro
(17.76 points), H D F C Bank (14.06 points), I T C (11.65 points)
and Reliance Industries (10.28 points).
However, Bharti Airtel contributed fall of 2.11 points in the Sensex. It was followed by D L F (1.66 points), Wipro (1.24 points), Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.56 points) and Reliance Communications (0.3 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Larsen & Toubro (1.71%), Dr Reddy"S Laboratories (1.71%), Jindal Steel & Power (1.46%), I C I C I Bank (1.43%), Tata Steel (1.40%), and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (1.23%).
On the other hand, Bajaj Auto (1.58%), Bharti Airtel (0.48%), Wipro (0.45%), and Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.24%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.78% and 0.73% respectively. The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Aban Offshore (2.25%), A B G Shipyard (1.59%), A I A Engineering (1.34%), Allcargo Logistics (1.02%) and Alstom India (0.57%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were A B G Infralogistics (6.82%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (3.12%), Trident (0.69%), Aanjaneya Lifecare (0.63%) and Aarti Industries (0.31%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Metal index was at 10,631.06, up by 132.31 points or by 1.26%. The major gainers were Hindustan Zinc (1.82%), Jindal Steel & Power (1.46%), Hindalco Industries (0.75%), Coal India (0.56%) and Bhushan Steel (0.38%).
The Capital Goods index was at 11,164.76, up by 131.98 points or by 1.20%. The major gainers were BEML (1.61%), A I A Engineering (1.34%), A B B (0.75%), Alstom India (0.57%) and Bharat Electronics (0.38%).
The Bankex index was at 13,196.04, up by 144.99 points or by 1.11%. The major gainers were Federal Bank (1.34%), H D F C Bank (1.01%), Bank Of India (0.39%), Canara Bank (0.27%) and Bank Of Baroda (0.22%).
The Consumer Durables index was at 7,126.73, up by 77.57 points or by 1.10%. The major gainers were Bajaj Electricals (3.28%), Blue Star (1.85%), Whirlpool Of India (0.96%), C.Mahendra Exports (0.54%) and Gitanjali Gems (0.37%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was positive with 1,344 advances against 530 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Shree Cement topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 233.05 million. It was followed by United Spirits (Rs. 192.21 million), State Bank Of India (Rs. 179.15 million) and Allcargo Logistics (Rs. 132.64 million).
The volume chart was led by I V R C L with trades of over 1.98 million shares. It was followed by Lanco Infratech (1.41 million), Eveready Industries (India) (1.41 million) and Suryavanshi Spinning Mills (1.34 million).
