Indian markets are trading on a buoyant note tracking strong
Asian market. Broad based buying is being witnessed across all
counters. Sensex and Nifty were trading above 12-month high.
At 10.52 a.m., the Sensex was trading up 256.47 points or 1.38%
at 18,835.97 with 29 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was
trading higher by 76.75 points or 1.36% at 5,726.25 with 48
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of
125.48 points or 0.68% at 18,704.98, while the broad based NSE
Nifty started with a rise of 35.30 points or 0.62%, at
Tata Motors contributed rise of 26.76 points in the Sensex. It
was followed by Reliance Industries (26.51 points), Housing
Development Finance Corporation (26.24 points), ITC (22.98 points)
and Tata Consultancy Services (20.02 points).
However, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries contributed fall of 0.36
points in the Sensex. It was followed by HDFC Bank (0.89 points),
Bharat Heavy Electricals (1 points), Reliance Communications (1.11
points) and State Bank Of India (2.05 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Tata Motors (4.33%),
Tata Power Company (3.59%), Jindal Steel & Power (3.20%),
Hindalco Industries (3.17%), Tata Steel (2.97%), and Maruti Suzuki
On the other hand,Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.11%) was the
biggest loser in the Sensex pack.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps underperformed their larger
counterparts gaining 1.36% and 1.07% respectively.The major gainers
in the BSE Midcap were Alok Industries (2.42%), CORE Education and
Technologies (1.61%), Aban Offshore (1.33%), Alstom India (0.77%)
and ABG Shipyard (0.28%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were
Styrolution ABS (India) (2.59%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering
Services (1.63%), Trident (1.56%), Aanjaneya Lifecare (0.79%) and
Aarti Industries (0.38%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Auto index was at 10,479.94, up by 259.93 points or by
2.54%. The major gainers were Exide Industries (3.11%), Ashok
Leyland (1.89%), Bharat Forge (1.55%), Hero Motocorp (1.37%) and
Bajaj Auto (1.37%).
The Metal index was at 10,625.87, up by 240.44 points or by
2.32%. The major gainers were Jindal Steel & Power (3.2%),
Hindalco Industries (3.17%), Hindustan Zinc (2.42%), Coal India
(1.44%) and Bhushan Steel (0.46%).
The Realty index was at 1,894.70, up by 40.77 points or by
2.20%. The major gainers were D L F (3.24%), Godrej Properties
(2.27%), Indiabulls Real Estate (1.87%), Anant Raj Industries
(1.79%) and DB Realty (0.82%).
The Power index was at 2,058.55, up by 37.42 points or by 1.85%.
The major gainers were Crompton Greaves (3.28%), Reliance
Infrastructure (2.11%), Adani Power (1.61%), A B B (1.55%) and
Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.42%).
Market breadth was positive with 1,711 advances against 645
Value and Volume Toppers
United Spirits topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover
of Rs. 576.89 million. It was followed by State Bank Of India (Rs.
277.63 million), Oracle Financial Services Software (Rs. 230.47
million) and ICICI Bank (Rs. 187.80 million).
The volume chart was led by Shree Renuka Sugars with trades of
over 4.45 million shares. It was followed by Tulip Telecom (2.62
million), Lanco Infratech (2.27 million) and Mahanagar Telephone
Nigam (1.60 million).
