Sensex surges over 200 pts; Metal, auto, realty rise

Indian markets gained on Friday snapping earlier losses. At
10.07 a.m., the Sensex was trading up 216.39 points or 1.16% at
18,795.89 with 29 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was

The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of
125.48 points or 0.68% at 18,704.98, while the broad based NSE

points), Reliance Infrastructure (1.16 points), Bharat Heavy
Electricals (1.28 points) and Reliance Communications (1.47
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Tata Power Company
(3.44%), Tata Motors (3.41%), Jindal Steel & Power (3.17%),
Hindalco Industries (2.75%), Tata Steel (2.55%), and Tata
Consultancy Services (2.31%).
On the other hand, and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.23%)
were the major losers in the Sensex.
Sectors in Limelight
The Metal index was at 10,602.85, up by 217.42 points or by
2.09%. The major gainers were Jindal Steel & Power (3.17%),
Hindalco Industries (2.75%), Hindustan Zinc (1.88%), Coal India
(1.31%) and Bhushan Steel (0.56%).
The Auto index was at 10,427.87, up by 207.86 points or by
2.03%. The major gainers were Exide Industries (2.37%), Hero
Motocorp (1.35%), Ashok Leyland (1.26%), Bajaj Auto (1.25%) and
Bharat Forge (0.97%).
The Realty index was at 1,883.13, up by 29.20 points or by
1.58%. The major gainers were Anant Raj Industries (2.39%), D L F
(2.16%), Indiabulls Real Estate (1.36%), Godrej Properties (0.86%)
and D B Realty (0.07%).
The Power index was at 2,049.29, up by 28.16 points or by 1.39%.
The major gainers were Crompton Greaves (2.68%), Adani Power
(1.52%), Reliance Infrastructure (1.15%), A B B (0.66%) and Bharat
Heavy Electricals (0.54%).
Market breadth was positive with 1,419 advances against 496
Value and Volume Toppers
United Spirits topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover
of Rs. 464.74 million. It was followed by Shree Renuka Sugars (Rs.
159.36 million), State Bank Of India (Rs. 155.26 million) and
United Breweries (Holdings) (Rs. 124.77 million).
The volume chart was led by Shree Renuka Sugars with trades of
over 4.37 million shares. It was followed by Tulip Telecom (2.06
million), Lanco Infratech (1.84 million) and Mahanagar Telephone
Nigam (1.35 million).
