Indian equities pared somegains and are trading on a flat note

At 01.52 p.m., the Sensex was trading up 25.39 points or 0.14%
at 18,657.56 with 17 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was
trading higher by 4.15 points or 0.07% at 5,667.60 with 29
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of
27.58 points or 0.15% at 18,659.75, while the broad based NSE Nifty
started with a rise of 10.30 points or 0.18%, at 5,673.75.
Larsen & Toubro contributed rise of 18.86 points in the
Sensex. It was followed by ITC (11.52 points), Tata Power Company
(11.18 points), Housing Development Finance Corporation (10.56
points) and State Bank Of India (8.64 points).
However, Reliance Industries contributed fall of 15.96 points in
the Sensex. It was followed by Infosys (15.82 points), Oil &
Natural Gas Corporation (11.51 points), HDFC Bank (4.94 points) and
Bharat Heavy Electricals (3.36 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Tata Power Company
(5.60%), Larsen & Toubro (1.84%), Mahindra & Mahindra
(1.68%), State Bank Of India (1.24%), Maruti Suzuki India (1.22%),
and Hindustan Unilever (1.13%).
On the other hand, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.57%),
Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.44%), Infosys (1.07%), Wipro (0.97%),
Reliance Industries (0.90%), and Sterlite Industries (India)
(0.74%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger
counterparts gaining 0.61% and 0.30% respectively. The major
gainers in the BSE Midcap were Amara Raja Batteries (1.93%), Aban
Offshore (1%), Alstom India (0.74%), Alok Industries (0.72%) and
Allcargo Logistics (0.07%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap
were Reliance MediaWorks (3.71%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering
Services (2.1%), Genesys International Corporation (0.92%), Adhunik
Metaliks (0.88%) and Action Construction Equipment (0.38%).
Sectors in Limelight
The FMCG index was at 5,402.66, up by 53.61 points or by 1.00%.
The major gainers were Jubilant FoodWorks (1.15%), Hindustan
Unilever (1.13%), ITC (0.68%), Godrej Consumer Products (0.57%) and
Colgate-Palmolive (India) (0.42%).
The Consumer Durables index was at 6,799.66, up by 63.27 points
or by 0.94%. The major gainers were C.Mahendra Exports (2.73%),
Titan Industries (2%), Whirlpool Of India (0.79%), Blue Star (0.5%)
and Rajesh Exports (0.38%).
The Capital Goods index was at 10,929.06, up by 89.76 points or
by 0.83%. The major gainers were Lakshmi Machine Works (2.52%),
Larsen & Toubro (1.84%), ABB (1.05%), Bharat Electronics
(0.78%) and Alstom India (0.74%).
On the other hand, the Oil & Gas index was at 8,629.86, down
by 91.48 points or by 1.05%. The major losers were Cairn India
(2.05%), Indian Oil Corporation (1.83%), Hindustan Petroleum
Corporation (1.24%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation (0.64%) and
Gujarat State Petronet (0.5%).
Market breadth was positive with 1,537 advances against 1,195
Value and Volume Toppers
United Spirits topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover
of Rs. 2,176.39 million. It was followed by State Bank Of India
(Rs. 706.06 million), United Breweries (Holdings) (Rs. 479.78
million) and Reliance Capital (Rs. 390.38 million).
The volume chart was led by Kingfisher Airlines with trades of
over 19.55 million shares. It was followed by Cals Refineries (6.43
million), Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (5.16 million) and Indiabulls
Infrastructure and Power (4.72 million).
