Sensex up 56 points in opening trade

Indian equities gained in early trade on Thursday. At 09.19 a.m, the Sensex was trading up 56.13 points or 0.30% at 18,688.30 with 24 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 10.30 points or 0.18% at 5,673.75 with 40 components gaining.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 27.58 points or 0.15% at 18,659.75, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 10.30 points or 0.18%, at 5,673.75.
Sensex Movers
Housing Development Finance Corporation
contributed rise of 11.22 points in the Sensex. It was followed by
Larsen & Toubro (10 points), I T C (5.77 points), H D F C Bank
(5.16 points) and Hindustan Unilever (4.78 points).
However, Infosys contributed fall of 3.91 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Wipro (0.54 points), Tata Power Company (0.29 points), Bharat Heavy Electricals (0 points) and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.24 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Maruti Suzuki India (1.23%), Jindal Steel & Power (1.12%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.06%), Larsen & Toubro (0.97%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (0.80%), and Tata Steel (0.80%).
On the other hand, Coal India (0.67%), Infosys (0.26%), Wipro (0.20%), Tata Power Company (0.15%), and G A I L (India) (0.06%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.40% and 0.48% respectively. The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Alok Industries (0.96%), Amara Raja Batteries (0.77%), Aban Offshore (0.59%), CORE Education and Technologies (0.12%) and Alstom India (0.04%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Adhunik Metaliks (1.93%), Alembic Pharmaceuticals (1.44%), Reliance MediaWorks (0.82%), Ahluwalia Contracts (India) (0.63%) and A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (0.58%).
Sectors in Limelight
The IPO index was at 1,629.09, up by 12.37 points or by 0.77%. The major gainers were Electrosteel Steels (3.59%), Claris Lifesciences (3.33%), BS TransComm (2.77%), Commercial Engineers and Body Builders Company (1.77%) and Eros International Media (0.88%).
The Auto index was at 10,325.93, up by 77.56 points or by 0.76%. The major gainers were Exide Industries (0.51%), Hero Motocorp (0.46%), Bajaj Auto (0.25%), Ashok Leyland (0.21%) and Bharat Forge (0.2%).
The Capital Goods index was at 10,912.95, up by 73.65 points or by 0.68%. The major gainers were Alstom T&D India (1%), A B B (0.76%), BEML (0.71%), Havell"S India (0.61%) and Alstom India (0.04%).
The Realty index was at 1,858.17, up by 12.02 points or by 0.65%. The major gainers were Anant Raj Industries (2.83%), Indiabulls Real Estate (0.95%), D B Realty (0.92%), D L F (0.77%) and Godrej Properties (0.15%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was positive with 665 advances against 178 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Shriram City Union Finance topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 342.52 million. It was followed by United Spirits (Rs. 35.90 million), State Bank Of India (Rs. 35.05 million) and Reliance Capital (Rs. 23.35 million).
The volume chart was led by Kingfisher Airlines with trades of over 1.43 million shares. It was followed by Shriram City Union Finance (0.46 million), Onmobile Global (0.32 million) and Housing Development and Infrastructure (0.21 million).
