Sensex trades tad higher; FMCG, CG rise

Indian equities continue to trade on a flat note amid volatility. Metal, auto and oil & gas stocksedged lower, while FMCG and capital goods witnessed some buying interest.
At 10.53 a.m., the Sensex was trading up 15.43 points or 0.08% at 18,688.77 with 13 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 6.20 points or 0.11% at 5,663.40 with 30 components falling.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 34.67 points or 0.19% at 18,708.01, while the broad based NSE Nifty began flat with a gain of 5.30 points or 0.09%, at 5,674.90.
Sensex Movers
Housing Development Finance Corporation contributed rise of 20.18 points in the Sensex. It was followed by ITC (12.87 points), Tata Consultancy Services (9.17 points), Larsen & Toubro (8.57 points) and Hindustan Unilever (6.36 points).
However, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation contributed fall of 8.97 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Tata Motors (8.74 points), HDFC Bank (8.4 points), Reliance Industries (8.39 points) and State Bank Of India (6.9 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Cipla (2.33%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.44%), NTPC (1.17%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.02%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.01%), and Hindustan Unilever (0.95%).
On the other hand, Jindal Steel & Power (2.53%), Tata Steel (1.66%), Tata Motors (1.43%), Maruti Suzuki India (1.39%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.22%), and Hero Motocorp (1.21%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Midcap index was at 6451.8 down by 2.08 points or by 0.03%. The major losers were Aban Offshore (2.3%), CORE Education and Technologies (0.13%), Alstom India (0.1%), Allcargo Logistics (0.07%) and AIA Engineering (0.03%).
Sectors in Limelight
The FMCG index was at 5,252.03, up by 34.50 points or by 0.66%. The major gainers were United Breweries (1.41%), Hindustan Unilever (0.95%), ITC (0.76%), Godrej Consumer Products (0.36%) and Dabur India (0.12%).
The HC index was at 7,382.87, up by 48.50 points or by 0.66%. The major gainers were Apollo Hospitals Enterprise (3.56%), Cipla (2.33%), Divis Laboratories (2.15%), Aurobindo Pharma (2%) and Biocon (1.04%).
The Power index was at 2,035.21, up by 11.23 points or by 0.55%. The major gainers were Crompton Greaves (3.56%), Lanco Infratech (3.05%), JSW Energy (2.49%), Adani Power (1.38%) and Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.01%).
On the other hand, the Metal index was at 10,601.98, down by 106.38 points or by 0.99%. The major losers were Jindal Steel & Power (2.53%), JSW Steel (0.77%), Hindalco Industries (0.71%), Coal India (0.69%) and Sesa Goa (0.36%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was negative with 1,110 advances against 1,098 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Bayer CropScience topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 6,161.37 million. It was followed by Cairn India (Rs. 1,020.30 million), SKS Microfinance (Rs. 614.00 million) and State Bank Of India (Rs. 495.81 million).
The volume chart was led by Bayer CropScience with trades of over 6.01 million shares. It was followed by SKS Microfinance (5.02 million), Lanco Infratech (4.15 million) and Cairn India (3.06 million).
