Sensex trades flat; Realty, Power, CG rally

Indian equitiescontinue totrade on a flat note on Monday. Sustained buying activity is being witnessed in realty, power and capital goods stocks.
At 11.51 a.m., the Sensex was trading up 1.42 points or 0.01% at 18,754.25 with 17 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 0.20 pointsat 5,691.35 with 26 components gaining.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened flat with a rise of 3.48 points or 0.02% at 18,756.31, while the broad based NSE Nifty began flat with a gain of 0.80 points or 0.01%, at 5,691.95.
Sensex Movers
ICICI Bank contributed rise of 20.52 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Bharat Heavy Electricals (13.11 points), Mahindra & Mahindra (11.4 points), Larsen & Toubro (11.38 points) and HDFC Bank (8.84 points).
However, ITC contributed fall of 44.76 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Hindustan Unilever (19.96 points), Housing Development Finance Corporation (16.54 points), Tata Consultancy Services (14.69 points) and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (7.51 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Bharat Heavy Electricals (6.24%), Jindal Steel & Power (5.34%), Tata Power Company (3.21%), Sterlite Industries (India) (2.74%), Mahindra & Mahindra (2.67%), and Hindalco Industries (2.08%).
On the other hand, Hindustan Unilever (2.82%), ITC (2.54%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.48%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.17%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.04%), and Coal India (1.02%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 1.17% and 1.27% respectively. The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were ABG Shipyard (7.59%), Aban Offshore (4.75%), Allcargo Logistics (3.08%), Alstom India (1.75%) and AIA Engineering (1.58%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (4%), Action Construction Equipment (1.51%), Styrolution ABS (India) (0.57%), Aanjaneya Lifecare (0.48%) and Aarti Industries (0.06%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Realty index was at 1,830.24, up by 52.80 points or by 2.97%. The major gainers were Indiabulls Real Estate (4.98%), Anant Raj Industries (3.95%), Godrej Properties (2.76%), DLF (2.15%) and DB Realty (2.08%).
The Power index was at 2,045.07, up by 54.96 points or by 2.76%. The major gainers were Adani Power (7.04%), Crompton Greaves (6.61%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (6.24%), Reliance Infrastructure (4.31%) and A B B (2.45%).
The Capital Goods index was at 10,979.68, up by 246.49 points or by 2.30%. The major gainers were Bharat Heavy Electricals (6.24%), A B B (2.45%), Alstom India (1.75%), A I A Engineering (1.58%) and BEML (1.44%).
On the other hand, the FMCG index was at 5,214.61, down by 81.07 points or by 1.53%. The major losers were Hindustan Unilever (2.82%), ITC (2.54%), Tata Global Beverages (0.23%), Colgate-Palmolive (India) (0.09%) and Dabur India (0.08%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was positive with 1,690 advances against 861 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
United Spirits topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 864.43 million. It was followed by State Bank Of India (Rs. 528.10 million), Larsen & Toubro (Rs. 323.40 million) and Bharat Heavy Electricals (Rs. 296.98 million).
The volume chart was led by Lanco Infratech with trades of over 8.10 million shares. It was followed by Transgene Biotek (4.21 million), Suzlon Energy (3.40 million) and GVK Power & Infrastructure (3.34 million).
