Sensex trades down 28 pts; HUL, ITC, TCS drag

Indian equities dropped on Monday erasing earlier gains. At 10.04 a.m., the Sensex was trading down 27.75 points or 0.15% at 18,725.08 with 13 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 1.05 points or 0.02% at 5,690.10 with 21 components falling.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened flat with a rise of 3.48 points or 0.02% at 18,756.31, while the broad based NSE Nifty began flat with a gain of 0.80 points or 0.01%, at 5,691.95.
Sensex Movers
I T C contributed fall of 34.27 points
in the Sensex. It was followed by Hindustan Unilever (18.06
points), Tata Consultancy Services (15.24 points), Reliance
Industries (8.94 points) and Larsen & Toubro (6.75 points).
However, Bharat Heavy Electricals contributed rise of 11.01 points in the Sensex. It was followed by State Bank Of India (9.01 points), Tata Power Company (7.58 points), H D F C Bank (7.5 points) and Mahindra & Mahindra (6.26 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Jindal Steel & Power (5.61%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (5.25%), Tata Power Company (3.89%), Maruti Suzuki India (1.84%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.47%), and State Bank Of India (1.42%).
On the other hand, Hindustan Unilever (2.56%), I T C (1.95%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.54%), Wipro (1.52%), Coal India (1.02%), and G A I L (India) (0.88%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.88% and 0.78% respectively. The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were A B G Shipyard (6.48%), Alstom India (1.51%), Alok Industries (0.93%), A I A Engineering (0.54%) and Aban Offshore (0.29%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Adhunik Metaliks (1.58%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (1.28%), Aarti Industries (0.77%), Action Construction Equipment (0.38%) and Aanjaneya Lifecare (0.07%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Power index was at 2,033.80, up by 43.69 points or by 2.20%. The major gainers were Bharat Heavy Electricals (5.25%), Adani Power (4.69%), Crompton Greaves (3.67%), A B B (2.39%) and Reliance Infrastructure (1.92%).
The Realty index was at 1,800.21, up by 22.77 points or by 1.28%. The major gainers were Housing Development and Infrastructure (2.34%), Indiabulls Real Estate (2.19%), Godrej Properties (1.4%), Anant Raj Industries (1.05%) and D L F (0.32%).
The IPO index was at 1,588.86, up by 16.90 points or by 1.08%. The major gainers were BS TransComm (2.49%), Electrosteel Steels (0.75%), Eros International Media (0.49%), Commercial Engineers and Body Builders Company (0.48%) and Career Point (0.17%).
On the other hand, the FMCG index was at 5,231.14, down by 64.54 points or by 1.22%. The major losers were Hindustan Unilever (2.56%), I T C (1.95%), Nestle India (0.17%) and Tata Global Beverages (0.15%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was positive with 1,242 advances against 594 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
United Spirits topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 485.15 million. It was followed by State Bank Of India (Rs. 349.82 million), Reliance Capital (Rs. 176.94 million) and Bharat Heavy Electricals (Rs. 134.38 million).
The volume chart was led by Lanco Infratech with trades of over 2.92 million shares. It was followed by Kingfisher Airlines (1.78 million), Indiabulls Infrastructure and Power (1.65 million) and Suzlon Energy (1.63 million).
