Indian equities extended gains as the government gave green
signalwith the notification allowing foreign investment in
multi-brand retail, aviation, and broadcast sectors despite
prevalent political clash. Both Sensex and Nifty were trading above
At 11.56 a.m., the Sensex was trading up 339.35 points or 1.85%
at 18,688.60 with 29 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was
trading higher by 110.30 points or 1.99% at 5,664.55 with 49
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of
61.95 points or 0.34% at 18,411.20, while the broad based NSE Nifty
started with a rise of 22.75 points or 0.41%, at 5,577.00.
ICICI Bank contributed rise of 56.13 points in the Sensex. It
was followed by ITC (40.03 points), Larsen & Toubro (28.91
points), Housing Development Finance Corporation (28.16 points) and
Mahindra & Mahindra (18.48 points).
However, Tata Motors contributed fall of 2.02 points in the
Sensex. It was followed by Maruti Suzuki India (2.31 points), DLF
(2.35 points), ACC (2.36 points) and Reliance Communications (2.92
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Mahindra & Mahindra
(4.34%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (4.27%), ICICI Bank (4.06%),
Sterlite Industries (India) (3.43%), Larsen & Toubro (2.95%),
and Tata Power Company (2.79%).
On the other hand,GAIL (India) (0.03%) was the onlyloser in the
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps underperformed their larger
counterparts gaining 1.45% and 1.18% respectively.The major gainers
in the BSE Midcap were ABG Shipyard (4.04%), Allcargo Logistics
(3.37%), Aban Offshore (1.52%), Alstom India (1.25%) and A I A
Engineering (0.42%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were A2Z
Maintenance & Engineering Services (2.59%), Trident (1.73%),
Action Construction Equipment (0.76%), Styrolution ABS (India)
(0.54%) and Adhunik Metaliks (0.36%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Power index was at 1,960.74, up by 53.61 points or by 2.81%.
The major gainers were Reliance Infrastructure (5.68%), Bharat
Heavy Electricals (4.27%), Adani Power (3.92%), Crompton Greaves
(3.3%) and A B B (2.14%).
The Capital Goods index was at 10,594.63, up by 286.09 points or
by 2.78%. The major gainers were BEML (2.65%), Bharat Electronics
(2.15%), ABB (2.14%), Alstom India (1.25%) and AIA Engineering
The Bankex index was at 12,852.61, up by 322.29 points or by
2.57%. The major gainers were Canara Bank(4.16%), Bank Of India
(2.55%), Bank Of Baroda (2.31%), Federal Bank (1.56%) and HDFC Bank
The Metal index was at 10,505.22, up by 243.65 points or by
2.37%. The major gainers were Hindalco Industries (2.68%),
Hindustan Zinc (2.12%), Jindal Steel & Power (1.78%), Coal

State Bank Of India topped the value chart on the BSE with a
turnover of Rs. 626.11 million. It was followed by Reliance
Industries (Rs. 268.33 million), Pantaloon Retail (India) (Rs.
227.23 million) and Reliance Capital (Rs. 218.66 million).
The volume chart was led by Lanco Infratech with trades of over
3.29 million shares. It was followed by Kingfisher Airlines (3.08
million), Deccan Chronicle Holdings (2.74 million) and Spicejet
