Sensex jumps 268 pts as govt. notifies FDI

Indian equities continued to rise on Friday. At 10.08 a.m., the Sensex was trading up 267.93 points or 1.46% at 18,617.18 with 30 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 81.35 points or 1.46% at 5,635.60 with 49 components gaining.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 61.95 points or 0.34% at 18,411.20, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 22.75 points or 0.41%, at 5,577.
Sensex Movers
I C I C I Bank contributed rise of
37.53 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Housing Development
Finance Corporation (30.26 points), Larsen & Toubro (28.8
points), I T C (23.52 points) and Reliance Industries (18.37
points).
However, Maruti Suzuki India contributed fall of 1.25 points in the Sensex. It was followed by ACC (1.42 points), D L F (1.62 points), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (2.14 points) and Hindalco Industries (2.23 points).
All shares in the Sensex settled with gains. Biggest were Bharat Heavy Electricals (3.39%), Larsen & Toubro (2.95%), I C I C I Bank (2.72%), Sterlite Industries (India) (2.62%), Mahindra & Mahindra (2.34%), and Housing Development Finance Corporation (2.16%).
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps underperformed their larger counterparts gaining 1.28% and 1.12% respectively.The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Alok Industries (2.11%), A I A Engineering (1.84%), Aban Offshore (1.12%), Alstom India (1.09%) and A B G Shipyard (0.48%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (2.67%), Action Construction Equipment (1.71%), Adhunik Metaliks (1.25%), Trident (0.12%) and Aanjaneya Lifecare (0.06%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Capital Goods index was at 10,569.40, up by 260.86 points or by 2.53%. The major gainers were BEML (2.05%), A I A Engineering (1.84%), Bharat Electronics (1.73%), A B B (1.51%) and Alstom India (1.09%).
The Power index was at 1,950.55, up by 43.42 points or by 2.28%. The major gainers were Reliance Infrastructure (4.28%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (3.39%), Crompton Greaves (3.3%), Adani Power (3.02%) and A B B (1.51%).
The Bankex index was at 12,768.61, up by 238.29 points or by 1.90%. The major gainers were Canara Bank(3.01%), Bank Of India (2.9%), Bank Of Baroda (1.93%), Federal Bank (1.31%) and H D F C Bank (0.84%).
The Realty index was at 1,765.60, up by 27.28 points or by 1.57%. The major gainers were Anant Raj Industries (3.82%), Indiabulls Real Estate (2.7%), Housing Development and Infrastructure (2.63%), D L F (1.5%) and Godrej Properties (1.04%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was positive with 1,388 advances against 417 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
State Bank Of India topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 250.18 million. It was followed by Pantaloon Retail (India) (Rs. 165.81 million), Reliance Capital (Rs. 165.78 million) and Reliance Industries (Rs. 130.55 million).
The volume chart was led by Kingfisher Airlines with trades of over 1.91 million shares. It was followed by Spicejet (1.65 million), Lanco Infratech (1.49 million) and I F C I (1.23 million).
