Indian marketspared most of its losses towards the closeon
Monday. At 3.07 p.m., the Sensex was trading down 17.34 points or
0.09% at 19,898.61 with 14 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty
was trading lower by 12.90 points or 0.22% at 5,894.40 with 25
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a decline
of 35.01 points or 0.18% at 19,880.94, while the broad based NSE
Nifty started with a fall of 18.25 points or 0.31%, at
I C I C I Bank contributed fall of 24.83 points in the Sensex.
It was followed by Reliance Industries (18.18 points), H D F C Bank
(18.02 points), Larsen & Toubro (11.02 points) and State Bank
Of India (8.4 points).
However, Tata Consultancy Services contributed rise of 26.49
points in the Sensex. It was followed by Tata Steel (9.43 points),
Hindalco Industries (4.75 points), I T C (4.71 points) and
Hindustan Unilever (4.48 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Tata Steel (3.76%),
Hindalco Industries (3.10%), Tata Consultancy Services (2.54%),
Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.81%), Jindal Steel & Power (1.61%),
and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.73%).
On the other hand, Coal India (2.97%), I C I C I Bank (1.56%),
Bharti Airtel (1.54%), H D F C Bank (1.15%), State Bank Of India
(1.11%), and Larsen & Toubro (1.10%) were the major losers in
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger
counterparts gaining 0.48% and 0.46% respectively. The major
gainers in the BSE Midcap were Allcargo Logistics (1.75%),
Allahabad Bank (1.31%), A B G Shipyard (0.16%), Aban Offshore
(0.16%) and A I A Engineering (0.01%).The major gainers in the BSE
Smallcap were Action Construction Equipment (10.46%), Dr Datsons
Labs (4.96%), Styrolution ABS (India) (1.45%), Aarti Industries
(0.91%) and Trident (0.22%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Bankex index was at 11,469.40, down by 141.6 points or by
1.22%. The major losers were Kotak Mahindra Bank (1.65%), I C I C I
Bank (1.56%), Canara Bank (1.27%), H D F C Bank (1.15%) and Bank Of
The Consumer Durables index was at 5,885.68, down by 27.09
points or by 0.46%. The major losers were Titan Industries (1.06%),
Symphony (0.49%), Blue Star (0.41%), Gitanjali Gems (0.38%) and
Rajesh Exports (0.1%).
On the other hand, the IT index was at 8,115.47, up by 93.82
points or by 1.17%. The major gainers were Tech Mahindra (3.13%),
Oracle Financial Services Software (2.73%), Tata Consultancy
Services (2.54%), H C L Technologies (2.04%) and Hexaware
Market breadth was negative with 1,234 advances against 1,081
Value and Volume Toppers
Axis Bank topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of
Rs. 1,949.99 million. It was followed by Housing Development
Finance Corporation (Rs. 607.51 million), Yes Bank (Rs. 483.25
million) and Ranbaxy Laboratories (Rs. 464.58 million).
The volume chart was led by Yantra Natural Resources with trades
of over 5.10 million shares. It was followed by L&T Finance
Holdings (4.59 million), Spicejet (2.22 million) and Jaiprakash
Associates (1.89 million).
