Indian equitiesturned negative in the post noon trade on Friday
on the back of weak rupee and subdued global cues. IT, consumer
durables and FMCG stocks witnessed a fall while capital goods,
PSUand power stocks saw buying interest.
At 13.23., the Sensex was trading down 57.01 points or 0.29% at
19,724.87 with 11 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was
trading higher by 12.90 points or 0.22% at 5,863.60 with 37
I T C contributed fall of 34.99 points in the Sensex. It was
followed by H D F C Bank (21.3 points), Housing Development Finance
Corporation (17.87 points), Infosys (17.68 points) and Bharti
Airtel (13.95 points).
However, Larsen & Toubro contributed rise of 14.36 points in
the Sensex. It was followed by Mahindra & Mahindra (10.77
points), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (10.43 points), Bharat
Heavy Electricals (8.46 points) and State Bank Of India (7.62
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Bharat Heavy
Electricals (4.38%), Hero Motocorp (2.39%), Coal India (2.19%),
Tata Power Company (2.16%), Mahindra & Mahindra (2.13%), and
Larsen & Toubro (1.45%).
On the other hand, Wipro (4.46%), Bharti Airtel (2.89%), Tata
Steel (1.72%), I T C (1.65%), H D F C Bank (1.37%), and Infosys
(1.30%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger
counterparts gaining 0.48% and 0.43% respectively. The major
gainers in the BSE Midcap were CORE Education and Technologies
(4.96%), Allahabad Bank (3.49%), Amtek Auto (1.27%), Alstom India
(0.92%) and A B G Shipyard (0.17%).The major gainers in the BSE
Smallcap were Adhunik Metaliks (6.57%), Action Construction
Equipment (4.26%), Styrolution ABS (India) (2.98%), Aarti
Industries (1.32%) and Trident (0.11%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Power index was at 1,508.64, up by 30.50 points or by 2.06%.
The major gainers were Bharat Heavy Electricals (4.38%), Adani
Power (3.15%), Reliance Infrastructure (2.95%), A B B India (0.57%)
and C E S C (0.08%).
The PSU index was at 5,569.65, up by 97.26 points or by 1.78%.
The major gainers were Allahabad Bank(3.49%), Bank Of India
(2.57%), Bank Of Baroda (2.55%), Andhra Bank (1.59%) and Balmer
Lawrie & Company (0.1%).
The Realty index was at 1,304.96, up by 21.61 points or by
1.68%. The major gainers were D L F (3.39%), Anant Raj (1.45%),
Indiabulls Real Estate (1.41%), Housing Development and
Infrastructure (0.94%) and Oberoi Realty (0.91%).
On the other hand, the Consumer Durables index was at 5,756.87,
down by 82.29 points or by 1.41%. The major losers were Titan
Industries (3.06%), Bajaj Electricals (1.51%), Gitanjali Gems
(1.37%) and Symphony (0.08%).
Market breadth was positive with 1,278 advances against 947
Value and Volume Toppers
Axis Bank topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of
Rs. 795.24 million. It was followed by Yes Bank (Rs. 470.50
million), Financial Technologies (India) (Rs. 458.09 million) and
State Bank Of India (Rs. 357.24 million).
The volume chart was led by Suzlon Energy with trades of over
3.86 million shares. It was followed by Jaiprakash Associates (3.71
million), TV18 Broadcast (2.98 million) and Financial Technologies
(India) (2.33 million).
