Indian markets wrapped today's session on a buoyant noteon
Friday aided by strong global cues and rupee. Banking, metal,
capital goods and realty stocks led the rally.At the close, the
benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained 467.38 points or 2.29%
at 20,882.89 with 28 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the
broad based NSE Nifty went up by 143.50 points or 2.37% at 6,189.35
with 49 components posting rise.Sensex Movers
I C I C I Bank contributed rise of 73.91 points in the Sensex.
It was followed by H D F C Bank (57.09 points), I T C (56.18
points), Reliance Industries (53.02 points) and Housing Development
Finance Corporation (51.71 points).
However, Sterlite Industries (India) contributed fall of 0
points in the Sensex. It was followed by Hindustan Unilever (0.94
points), ACC (1.57 points), Hero Motocorp (1.93 points) and Bharat
Heavy Electricals (2.24 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Tata Steel (5.92%), I C
I C I Bank (4.44%), Larsen & Toubro (4.19%), H D F C Bank
(3.46%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (3.18%), and
Hindalco Industries (3.15%).
On the other hand,Bajaj Auto (0.56%)was the onlyloser in the
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps underperformed their larger
counterparts gaining 0.99% and 0.66% respectively.The major gainers
in the BSE Midcap were A B G Shipyard (2.25%), Aban Offshore
(1.65%), Allahabad Bank (1.38%), Amtek Auto (1.02%) and Alstom
India (0.3%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Action
Construction Equipment (6.82%), Genesys International Corporation
(4.11%), Reliance MediaWorks (2.05%), Adhunik Metaliks (1.13%) and
Aarti Industries (1.05%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Bankex index was at 12,254.23, up by 463.05 points or by
3.93%. The major gainers were Canara Bank(3.6%), H D F C Bank
(3.46%), Federal Bank (3.41%), Bank Of Baroda (3.27%) and Bank Of
The Metal index was at 9,017.87, up by 289.60 points or by
3.32%. The major gainers were JSW Steel (3.16%), Hindalco
Industries (3.15%), Hindustan Zinc (2.38%), Jindal Steel &
Power (1.05%) and Coal India (0.65%).
The Capital Goods index was at 8,428.72, up by 247.56 points or
by 3.03%. The major gainers were A B B India (2.42%), Bharat
Electronics (1.6%), BEML (1.56%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.09%)
and Alstom India (0.3%).
The Realty index was at 1,353.31, up by 37.04 points or by
2.81%. The major gainers were Anant Raj (4.9%), Housing Development
and Infrastructure (4.83%), Indiabulls Real Estate (4.02%), D L F
(2.48%) and Godrej Properties (0.72%).
Market breadth was positive with 1,440 advances against 1,107
Value and Volume Toppers
Tata Steel topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of
Rs. 790.93 million. It was followed by Axis Bank (Rs. 763.04
million), Reliance Industries (Rs. 739.77 million) and Larsen &
Toubro (Rs. 724.15 million).
The volume chart was led by Spicejet with trades of over 8.23
million shares. It was followed by Moh (6.45 million), Jaiprakash
Associates (5.90 million) and Sintex Industries (4.98 million).
