Indian equities are trading higher in the post noon tradeon
Thursday. Consumer durables, banking, PSU andmetal stocks witnessed
rise whereas healthcare stocks registered a fall. At 2.01 p.m., the
Sensex was trading up 46.18 points or 0.22% at 21,080.15 with 13
components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by
17.30 points or 0.28% at 6,269 with 27 components gaining.
State Bank Of India contributed rise of
26.67 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Reliance Industries
(21.13 points), I C I C I Bank (14.38 points), Larsen & Toubro
(9.06 points) and Bharti Airtel (7.84 points).
However, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation contributed fall of
13.69 points in the Sensex. It was followed by H D F C Bank (8.32
points), Mahindra & Mahindra (7.91 points), Hindustan Unilever
(5.15 points) and I T C (5.1 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were State Bank Of India
(3.34%), Wipro (1.71%), Bharti Airtel (1.52%), Reliance Industries
(1.17%), Larsen & Toubro (0.86%), and I C I C I Bank
On the other hand, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.47%),
Mahindra & Mahindra (1.47%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (0.94%),
Cipla (0.91%), Maruti Suzuki India (0.80%), and Sun Pharmaceutical
Industries (0.78%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger
counterparts gaining 1.00% and 0.39% respectively. The major
gainers in the BSE Midcap were Allahabad Bank(11.12%), Aban
Offshore (3.14%), Amara Raja Batteries (0.96%), A B G Shipyard
(0.92%) and CORE Education and Technologies (0.26%).The major
gainers in the BSE Smallcap were A2Z Maintenance & Engineering
Services (5.6%), Dr Datsons Labs (4.94%), Trident (1.82%), Action
Construction Equipment (0.98%) and Aarti Industries (0.38%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Consumer Durables index was at 6,218.37, up by 74.87 points
or by 1.22%. The major gainers were Gitanjali Gems (2.45%), Rajesh
Exports (2.05%), Symphony (1.75%), Titan Industries (1.45%) and T T
K Prestige (0.79%).
The Metal index was at 9,110.42, up by 90.72 points or by 1.01%.
The major gainers were Coal India (0.82%), Jindal Steel & Power
(0.52%), Bhushan Steel (0.49%), Hindustan Zinc (0.34%) and JSW
On the other hand, the HC index was at 9,677.49, down by 54.19
points or by 0.56%. The major losers were Piramal Enterprises
(1.13%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (0.94%), Cipla (0.91%), Aurobindo
Pharma (0.87%) and Lupin (0.56%).
Market breadth was negative with 1,161 advances against 1,187
Value and Volume Toppers
United Spirits topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover
of Rs. 1,015.77 million. It was followed by State Bank Of India
(Rs. 579.21 million), Just Dial (Rs. 468.82 million) and Bank Of
India (Rs. 454.33 million).
The volume chart was led by Spicejet with trades of over 4.62
million shares. It was followed by Suzlon Energy (4.33 million),
Bank Of India (2.28 million) and Jaiprakash Associates (1.90
