Indian markets have extended fall towards closing on Friday led
by banking, metal and realty stocks. At 2.37 pm, the Sensex was
trading down 108.93 points or 0.55% at 19,784.92 with 22 components
falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 15.75 points or
0.27% at 5,866.50 with 37 components falling.
I C I C I Bank contributed fall of
31.91 points in the Sensex. It was followed by H D F C Bank (24.14
points), Housing Development Finance Corporation (20.1 points),
Bharti Airtel (11.73 points) and Larsen & Toubro (11.49
However, Reliance Industries contributed rise of 17.09 points in
the Sensex. It was followed by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (6.13
points), I T C (5.17 points), Tata Consultancy Services (4.76
points) and Hero Motocorp (4.55 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Hero Motocorp
(2.50%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (1.32%), Reliance Industries
(1.01%), Coal India (0.89%), Tata Consultancy Services (0.46%), and
Bajaj Auto (0.27%).
On the other hand, Bharat Heavy Electricals (3.46%), Tata Steel
(3.21%), Bharti Airtel (2.42%), Hindalco Industries (2.09%), I C I
C I Bank (2.02%), and H D F C Bank (1.55%) were the major losers in
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger
counterparts gaining 0.30% and 0.55% respectively. The major
gainers in the BSE Midcap were A B G Shipyard (14.16%), Allcargo
Logistics (9.97%), CORE Education and Technologies (4.98%),
Allahabad Bank (0.88%) and Aban Offshore (0.25%).The major gainers
in the BSE Smallcap were Aarti Industries (3.51%), Action
Construction Equipment (0.84%), Trident (0.78%), Dr Datsons Labs
(0.71%) and Reliance MediaWorks (0.24%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Bankex index was at 11,346.71, down by 147.94 points or by
1.29%. The major losers were I C I C I Bank (2.02%), H D F C Bank
(1.55%), Indusind Bank (1.34%), Federal Bank (1.25%) and Bank Of
The Metal index was at 8,636.84, down by 83.92 points or by
0.96%. The major losers were Hindalco Industries (2.09%), JSW Steel
(1.84%), NMDC (1.02%), Hindustan Zinc (0.98%) and Bhushan Steel
The Realty index was at 1,201.73, down by 11.5 points or by
0.95%. The major losers were Oberoi Realty (4.12%), D L F (1.99%),
Godrej Properties (1.3%), Housing Development and Infrastructure
(0.92%) and Anant Raj (0.83%).
On the other hand, the Oil & Gas index was at 8,417.82, up
by 67.89 points or by 0.81%. The major gainers were Bharat
Petroleum Corporation (6%), Indian Oil Corporation (2.53%),
Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (2.44%), Petronet LNG (1.36%) and
Oil India (0.03%).
Market breadth was negative with 1,160 advances against 1,117
Value and Volume Toppers
United Spirits topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover
of Rs. 745.49 million. It was followed by Yes Bank (Rs. 456.27
million), I C I C I Bank (Rs. 405.65 million) and State Bank Of
India (Rs. 392.43 million).
The volume chart was led by Texmaco Infrastructure and Holdings
with trades of over 5.60 million shares. It was followed by Cals
Refineries (5.19 million), Alok Industries (5.14 million) and Tata
Teleservices (Maharashtra) (5.05 million).
