Sensex ends choppy session flat; capital goods, auto gain

Indian markets ended the volatile sessionon a flatnote on
Tuesday. Capital goods, auto and power stocks gained while metal,
PSU and IT stockswitnessed a fall. At the close, the 30-share
benchmark index, BSE Sensex ended flat with a rise of 19.25
pointspoints or 0.10% at 19,920.21, 14 components posting rise.
while the broad based NSE Nifty closed flat with a gain of 4.30
points or 0.07%, at 5,894.05.20 components posting rise Sensex
Housing Development Finance Corporation contributed rise of 25.8
points in the Sensex. It was followed by Larsen & Toubro (18.18
points), Mahindra & Mahindra (7.05 points), NTPC (6.32 points)
and Tata Motors (5.02 points).
However, Bharti Airtel contributed fall of 8.52 points in the
Sensex. It was followed by H D F C Bank (8.32 points), Tata
Consultancy Services (6.66 points), Oil & Natural Gas
Corporation (6.04 points) and Hindalco Industries (5.6 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Bajaj Auto (2.54%),
Tata Power Company (2.46%), Larsen & Toubro (1.82%), NTPC
(1.72%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.66%), and
Mahindra & Mahindra (1.38%).
On the other hand, Hindalco Industries (3.65%), Coal India
(2.56%), Jindal Steel & Power (1.98%), Bharti Airtel (1.75%),
Wipro (1.14%), and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.69%) were
the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Midcap settled higher4.57 points or 0.08% at 5,609.63
however the Bse Smallcap dropped 0.02 points or 0.85% at 5,453.36
at the closing.The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were CORE
Education and Technologies (4.99%), A B G Shipyard (2.9%), Alstom
India (1.94%), A I A Engineering (1.29%) and Allahabad Bank
(0.57%).The major losers in the BSE Smallcap were Aarti Industries
(2.33%), Trident (2.09%), Styrolution ABS (India) (1.53%), A2Z
Maintenance & Engineering Services (1.41%) and Dr Datsons Labs
Sectors in Limelight
The Auto index was at 11,195.75, up by 122.48 points or by
1.11%. The major gainers were Ashok Leyland (7.93%), Bajaj Auto
(2.54%), Exide Industries (1.3%), Cummins India (0.61%) and Hero
On the other hand, the Metal index was at 8,574.95, down by
83.72 points or by 0.97%. The major losers were Hindalco Industries
(3.65%), Coal India (2.56%), Jindal Steel & Power (1.98%), Sesa
Goa (1.11%) and Bhushan Steel (0.01%).
Market breadth was negative with 1,172 advances against 1,197
Value and Volume Toppers
State Bank Of India topped the value chart on the BSE with a
turnover of Rs. 1,203.92 million. It was followed by Yes Bank (Rs.
1,146.79 million), Axis Bank (Rs. 480.22 million) and Sesa Goa (Rs.
The volume chart was led by Cals Refineries with trades of over
17.15 million shares. It was followed by Spicejet (6.88 million),
Yes Bank (3.60 million) and Ashok Leyland (3.29 million).
