NALCO adds almost Rs 10 bn in m-cap on surprise profit jump

National Aluminium Company (NALCO), a manufacturer and distributor of aluminum products, surged on Wednesday after the companysaid its third quarter profit more than doubled. The rally in the share prices of NALCO lifted its market capitalisation by almost Rs 10 billionto Rs Rs 130.4 billion.During the quarter, the company's profit increased to Rs 1,189 million for the quarter ended Dec. 31, 2012 whereas the same was at Rs 512.2 million in the year ago period.

Net sales during the quarter increase by 16.79% to Rs 16.70 billion, while total income went up 14.46% to Rs 18.05 billion, when compared with prior year period.

Shares of the company settled at Rs 50.60, up Rs 3.8, or 8.12% at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on Wednesday. In the earlier session, the shares fell 0.64%, or Rs 0.3, at Rs 46.80.Total volume of shares traded on the bourses today was higher by 1,703.49% to 3,144,304 compared with 22-day average volume of 174,345.

The scrip has touched an intra-day high of Rs 51.20 and low of Rs 47.50.
