Ajanta Pharma gains on strong Q2 earnings

Mumbai-based Ajanta Pharma gained on Friday after it reported a rise of 84.64% in net profit to Rs 218.8 million for the quarter ended Sept. 30, 2012 as compared to Rs 118.5 million in the same period last year.

The improvement in operating margins and higher sales helped the company report strong earnings performance. Shares ofthe companyare trading at Rs 419.20, up Rs 7.5, or 1.82% at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on Friday at 12:46 p.m.Net sales has increased by 37.91% to Rs 1,863.7 million for the quarter ended Sept 30, 2012 from Rs 1,351.4 million in the year ago period.The scrip has touched an intra-day high of Rs 424 and low of Rs 415. The total volume of shares traded at the BSE is 24,496.In the earlier session, the shares climbed 6.37%, or Rs 24.65, at Rs 411.70. Currently, the stock is trading down 16.99% from its 52-week high of Rs 505.00 and above 187.95% over the 52-week low of Rs 145.58.
