Delhi-NCR tops job creation list

Despite economic slowdown, Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) has topped the list of job creating metros with a share of 23 per cent across various sectors for the last two consecutive quarters.

The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), in their study ‘Job Trends Across Cities and Sectors, pointed out that over 29,000 jobs were generated in the Q1 of the current financial year while over 1.2 lakh jobs were generated across India during the aforesaid period.

There has been a dip of over 20% in the total job generation between Q1 of the current financial year and the Q4 of the previous financial year across India which showcases a clear slowdown in employment.

The trade body also pointed out the decline ranging between 14-33% across eight metros; Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune. “This basically reinforces the picture that employers in India are turning very cautious in wake of the global economic slowdown which has also lead to a sharp decline in attrition levels at India Inc,” D S Rawat, secretary general of the body said. It also revealed that IT and Information Technology Enabled Services (ITeS), education, banking, financial services and insurance and automobiles are the top five sectors generating maximum jobs across India.

The education sector has seen a surge of over 41% in job generation, rest of the sectors have seen a dip between 6-31% in the course of the last two quarters.
